Robert Mooijekind

Counsel

Robert Mooijekind, counsel at BUREN, advises on intellectual property, technology and data law. He is also a member of the firm’s China practice. He has advised clients across a broad range of sectors, including design, marketing, media, sport, F&B, consumer products, chemicals and technology. Drawing on experience gained in both private practice and in-house positions, he provides pragmatic and commercially focused advice. Having lived and worked in the UK and China for many years, he is well placed to guide clients through cross-border matters.

Robert's practice covers the full range of soft IP — copyright, trade marks, designs, domain names, databases, and trade secrets. He advises on IP portfolio due diligence, protection strategies, restructurings and portfolio management, as well as platform liability issues. He also drafts and negotiates a wide variety of IP-related commercial agreements, from rights transfers and licences to collaboration arrangements and confidentiality agreements. Robert represents clients in proceedings before the BOIP, EUIPO and WIPO (domain name arbitration) as well as before the Dutch courts. His practice further extends to privacy, data, AI and EU digital regulation.

Robert joined BUREN in 2026. Prior to this, he practised at Bird & Bird and HIL International Lawyers, which merged with BUREN in 2016. He has also held in-house roles at the architectural firm OMA and at Interpublic Group (now Omnicom), a global marketing and advertising conglomerate. From 2014 to 2025, Robert was based first in London and then in Hong Kong.

Robert holds a Master's degree in Information Law from the University of Amsterdam (Institute for Information Law, IViR), obtained in 2009, and is currently completing a specialist course in Intellectual Property Law and Procedural Law at the Mr S.K. Martens Academy. He also studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2007 and at Peking University in 2010.
