BUREN Announces New Executive Board

The Hague, 1 September 2024 – Effective 1 September 2024, Paul A. Josephus Jitta will take up the role of managing partner. Martine ’t Hart has been appointed as the new managing director. Together with the current managing partner, Martijn Vermeeren, they will form BUREN’s executive board. Josephus Jitta succeeds Cees-Frans Greeven, who has served as managing director since January 2021. ’t Hart will take over from Gertjan Lubbers.

“As the executive board of an independent, internationally operating firm of lawyers, tax advisers and notaries, we have the responsibility to continually look ahead and clear the path for our legal and tax experts to excel,” said the new executive board. “In the coming years, we will focus on further digitisation and innovation. Additionally, we will continue to invest in sustainability and social responsibility, as we believe legal advice cannot be separated from the world around us. Moreover, we see strengthening our international partnerships as crucial to remaining effective in an increasingly complex global market. It is our ambition not only to embrace these themes but also to take a leading role in them.”

Both Josephus Jitta and Vermeeren will remain active in their respective areas of practice.

Paul A. Josephus Jitta specialises in (inter)national corporate law, primarily advising on international M&A transactions. He frequently litigates corporate and commercial disputes, particularly those involving the dissolution of international joint ventures. Paul also serves as the honorary consul of Ecuador in Amsterdam and is jointly responsible for BUREN’s Spain & Latin America desk. He was involved in the Cancun case, which resulted in significant legal precedent regarding directors' liability. Clients commend him for his knowledge, commercial acumen, and pragmatic approach.

Martijn Vermeeren is one of the Netherlands' leading restructuring and insolvency advisers. As a trustee, he has handled various complex bankruptcies, including those of Miss Etam and the Ruwaard van Putten Hospital. Vermeeren also advises clients in pre-insolvency situations and related business transactions, including WHOA proceedings. He holds several additional roles, including as a board member of a professional sports organisation and the Richard Krajicek Foundation.

Martine ’t Hart spent 14 years at Allen & Overy, where she advised the management team as Head of HR during the last five years. She has also held significant HR roles at other law firms. ’t Hart joined BUREN as HR Manager in 2022, where she has already been advising the executive board on governance matters.
