Kenneth Yim, of counsel and tax adviser to BUREN, focuses on advising clients in doing business or investing in the Asia-Pacific region through Hong Kong. Where relevant, he also coordinates Dutch and Luxembourg tax and legal services for Asian companies and investors expanding into Western countries via the Netherlands or Luxembourg.
Based in Hong Kong and a native Cantonese and Dutch speaker, Kenneth advises corporates, investment funds, family offices, entrepreneurs, and non-profit organisations in respect of their Hong Kong tax matters, usually in a cross-border context. In addition, he assists clients in negotiating advance tax rulings, handling tax investigations, and resolving disputes with tax authorities.
Kenneth’s work experience includes international tax roles in the Netherlands, the United States and Hong Kong at, respectively, a Big Four accounting firm, law firms, and his own tax consultancy firm.
On the academic side of professional practice, Kenneth is the global managing editor of IBFD’s online collection ‘Investment Funds and Private Equity’ covering >25 jurisdictions. He has also been a regular contributor to their publications on international tax matters involving Hong Kong.
Kenneth graduated at Tilburg University with Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees in tax law (2005) and civil law (2006). Subsequently, he qualified with the Dutch Association of Tax Advisors (‘Nederlandse Orde van Belastingadviseurs’).
