Klaas van der Graaf, partner and lawyer at BUREN, specialises in commercial contracting and commercial litigation, with over 10 years of experience acquired both in private practice and as an inhouse counsel for a large automotive company.

Klaas supports clients with the full breadth of their sales and procurement activities, including negotiating and concluding agency and distribution agreements, framework agreements, general terms and conditions, platform compliance and advertising, in a pragmatic and business minded manner. His expertise extends to dealings with regulatory bodies. Additionally, Klaas has significant expertise in the field of consumer law and EU law related to emerging technology, product liability and the sale of goods.

As an experienced litigator, Klaas has successfully represented clients in numerous proceedings before the Dutch courts (first instance, appeal, and summary proceedings), as well as in arbitration and mediation proceedings. His litigation practice encompasses contractual disputes, product and professional liability disputes, attachment and enforcement proceedings, and disputes related to M&A and corporate governance.

Klaas holds an LLM in Corporate and Civil law from the University of Groningen (2013). During his studies, he chaired the board of the Student Society for Private Law in Groningen. Klaas is a member of the Dutch Society for Private Law and the Dutch Society for Corporate Litigation.

Experience includes:

• Representing a US based listed company in a contractual dispute regarding the supply of goods in The Netherlands.
• Representing and advising a US based listed company in various consumer law and warranty related disputes.
• Representing a shareholder/director a complex joint-venture dispute, leading to a buy-out.
• Representing a listed company in squeeze-out proceedings before the Enterprise Chamber.
• Representing a group of investors in relation to litigation surrounding the public the majority shareholder’s public bid before the Amsterdam Enterprise Chamber
• Representing an oil company in an ICC arbitration related to its participation in a joint venture.
